Orphan Sunday 2016

Orphan Sunday

by Andy McDonald

Each year we partner with Christian Alliance for Orphans and over 600 churches worldwide to intercede on behalf of those affected by the global orphan crisis. We take this Sunday to bring forward this issue that is near the heart of God and to ask Him to do through us what He has promised to do in His power. Join us for this time of worship before God and prayer for His mission at 10:30 this Sunday morning.

One Day. One Voice. One Purpose.
"Defend the cause of the fatherless." Isaiah 1:17

Caring for vulnerable children cannot be a one Sunday event. We are called to step into lives to support and care for those in need. So, this month we will highlight different ministries that many of our church are involved in, and give opportunities to support them with prayer, time and, resources. Here is a snapshot of organizations that we partner with or participate in, and ways you can get involved:

CASA is a state program that gives training to advocates for children in crisis. We have a number of people from our church who have gone through the training and support children emotionally and legally in Oklahoma. There was a great 5K run last weekend to support this program.

Hands and Feet Project is a network of orphanages in Haiti. We have taken numerous mission trips as a church to support this gospel centered ministry. We know the leaders, we know the children, and we love the heart they have to raise the next generation of Christian leaders in Haiti. Over the next month, you will see bracelets that you can purchase in our lobby. These are made in Haiti, and support the economy of Haiti--specifically women, which, in turn, helps these children. Half of each bracelet's cost will go toward Redeemer’s Mission trip in March. Buy one as a Christmas present, help women in Haiti, and support our mission effort in March!

Foster Care Christmas. There are 240,000 children in Foster Care nationwide. For the rest of the month of November, we will have cards available for you to buy a Christmas present for a child in Foster Care in Cleveland County. Pick up a card, make the purchase, and bring it on a Sunday morning before December 4th.

Grace Home is a local maternity home for at-risk mothers. Christy and I are honored to serve on the board of this ministry. Grace Home provides a Christian alternative to pregnant women in need, with no place to go, in abusive/destructive relationships, and who may struggle with aborting the pregnancy. Grace Home provides a free place to live, prenatal care, and a Christian home. The residents are nurtured through the pregnancy and mother and baby can stay for up to a year after the child is born. This Sunday, and until the end of the month, you can give to our Orphan Sunday special offering. Grace Home will be one of the recipients.

There are so many more great organizations that care for vulnerable children. Our goal is to equip you for the work of ministering to orphans to which God has called you through prayer, giving of your time and talents, and your financial support.

Grace & Peace
